Event Objectives: This course is created in compliance with the CICC Essential Competencies for RCIC Practice pertaining to research and informatics. Apart from an overview of these Competences, which must be adhered by RCICs, in order to establish how legal research creates new knowledge, discovers, explains, examines, analyses and presents facts, principles, provisions, concepts and theories in a systematic shape and form, the focus of this course will be also on further detailed exploration of types of legal research and methods used to conduct it; how to think strategically when conducting legal research to support creation and implementation of the legal strategy in legal representation practice; how to identify credible sources and differentiate primary and secondary sources of legal research; how to cite the case low; and how to use government’s immigration, refugees, and citizenship portals. Additionally, the spotlight will be on the role of an effective Submissions, how to write them or orally present them; their persuasive character, and decisive elements of convincing a Member of the IRB, or an Officer of the IRCC or CBSA to render a positive decision..
