Types of Temporary Resident Visa, Exemptions from TRV Requirements on Different Grounds, and How to Remain in Canada as a Temporary Resident Permit Holder to Pave the Path Towards Permanent Residence

Event Objectives: This course is a comprehensive overview of requirements for a temporary resident visa (TRV) as they are defined under section R179 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR); different types of a TRV: single-entry and who can re-enter Canada even on a single-entry visa in accordance with s. R 190(3)(f) of the IRPR; multiple-entry visa and its validity; transit visa; super visa and its enhancements from July 4, 2022 that increased length of stay for parents and grandparents from 2 to 5 years, and changed policy regarding their medical insurance; student visa (study permit) in the light of the Regulations Amending the IRPR pertaining to the designated learning institutions (DLA); work visa (work permit) in the light of ended the RCIC Temporary Public Policy as of August 28, 2024 so temporary residents cannot apply for work permit from within Canada any longer; distinction between visa-required countries, and visa- exempt countries based on several grounds; electronic travel authorization (e-TA) and who is exempt from it; visitor record; dual intent as per IRPA s. A22(2); definition of foreign nationals in IRPA s. A2(1); who is considered as a temporary resident (visitors, students and workers, whose intent to remain in Canada is temporary in nature and must leave Canada by the end of their authorized period to stay, unless they submit an application to change condition or extend their stay). Thus, obtaining, maintaining, extending, loosing, and restoring temporary resident status will be discussed in great details alongside a TRV. Apart from this, the focus will be also on a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP), designed by the government to help those who are inadmissible to Canada to overcome their inadmissibility, and how a TRP can be used to pave the path towards permanent residence.
